Projects

Hatch, NM
SNMCD serves the community to identify and obtain funding that meets the vision of Mayor Whitlock.

Considered the, “Chile Capital of the World,” the Hatch Valley has been home to chile farming for 100 years and critical in the production of the large chile pepper that we know (and love!) today. The world famous Chile Festival is held each Labor Day and celebrated its 50th year in 2022. The festival is the longest, continuously running festival in the state of NM and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Funding
SNMCD reviews and pursues funding opportunities to meet the strategic plans established by rural leaders.

Over 400 federal programs are open to funding rural communities for economic and community development, spanning 13 departments, 10 independent agencies, and over 50 offices and sub-agencies.

New Mexico
SNMCD tracks legislative outcomes to inform rural leaders about potential impacts and opportunities.

A state of great beauty and tremendous disparities. From having the highest number of people holding PhD’s per capita across the nation, to the idea that there are more cows per square mile than people. Representation includes 2 US Senators and 3 US Representatives. The state legislature includes 42 State Senators and 70 State Representatives.

Small Business Owners
SNMCD partners with small business owners to identify and target revitalization opportunities within their communities.

Small business owners (SBOs) are the heartbeat of rural communities across NM. They drive economies, promote inclusion and prosperity, add to the diversity of life with social activities and help create nice places to live. Meeting with SBOs provides broad vision and specialized avenues to focus on for community development.

“SNMCD is addressing a critical need here in NM.”
